I attended UNCC simply because is was close to home and it offered the degree I wanted. I wish I had done more research before I made this decision. Intro classes are huge ~200 people. You get no attention from the professors. If you are lucky the TA for your small group session is good but this is hit or miss.As you progress through classes they rarely build on each other well. Communication between professors is poor and coordination between departments is even worse. ie. The math department is never preparing you for anything but a passing a math exam. They aren't concerned if you understand math or not.The level of instruction across the board is poor. So many of the faculty speak such poor english that just understanding the lecture is a struggle. There has also been a big switch to part-time professors who are difficult to get office hours with and are often terrible instructors. There are exceptions but for the most part you are left to teach yourself the material. On another note, tuition has been raised in recent years to pay for the new football team. They didn't have football when I first came to the university and that was fine by me. I can't say that having any sports team has improved the quality of my education. If anything it has worsened it. |
