7 Bad Things 1. The University of Hawaii at Manoa does not offer a surfing course, a well organized surfing club, or a surfing extra-curricular activity to speak of.2. The University of Hawaii at Manoa has the lowest quality fraternity/student club program possible.3. The University of Hawaii at Manoa does not always offer the classes you need.4. The University of Hawaii at Manoa does not typically offer enough registration slots in the classes it DOES offer so that everyone who needs it can get in.5. The University of Hawaii at Manoa has a financial aid department which seems to revel in being a bureaucracy. You will often wait months for them to disburse any financial aid you take out to help yourself (they do not care if you have to pay rent, it takes as long as it takes and it takes forever and it's because of "the system", and "the system" only works on Tuesdays, and "the person" that knows about "the system" is not in, and they tried to fix "the system" but they gave up).6. The University of Hawaii at Manoa is architecturally ugly (beige cement cubes with no hint of trying to NOT be a scar on a beautiful island), and is always under construction. The new Campus Center building and addition to the chemistry building are a step in the right direction, though.7. The University of Hawaii at Manoa dorm system allows you to beg for the dorm you want, but will simply give you the dorm they were going to give you anyways. The dorms are NOT air conditioned (except for the two that EVERYONE begs for which requires you to pay through the teeth to live at if they graciously select you to live there).1 Good Thing1. I went to the University of Hawaii at Manoa for Mechanical Engineering, and, when the school wasn't limiting class availability and undercutting the professors and not hiring enough professors, the program was great.—The professors in the Engineering and Science departments are intelligent, provide excellent lectures, are available, are fair, organize a class well, and make sure you learn.—The curriculum is challenging and inspires creativity and practice. You learn a lot and acquire lots of experience. |
