Hood is so mediocre for the price you pay. Financial aid is generally pretty decent, since they're hungry to attract students, and Hood as a whole doesn't have a lot going for it. Decent liberal arts school, nothing more, nothing less. Professors are mostly good and helpful. Extracurriculars are around, but your selection is pretty limited, as you'd expect from such a small college. Students are nice, for the most part, and you'll have no problem making acquaintances through your classes, especially in your upper-level classes in your major. Harder to meet people outside of class, though. Lots of commuters. Not a lot of school spirit or heavily attended activities.

I'm a comm major (IMC, to be specific). It's a good program, one of the best at Hood from what I've gathered, and quite popular. It's definitely geared towards career success and not abstract theory courses like some comm programs.

Campus is small but beautiful. Parking isn't awful compared to some schools, but could be a lot better. Food sucks. Administration isn't very transparent. Financial aid is office is only moderately helpful, generally moreso when you are a prospective student. Sports teams are pretty popular here. I personally have found it hard to make friends besides the acquaintances I've made in classes, but if I lived on campus, this would probably be easier.

Frederick is nice, but small. Not a college town, by any means, no matter what their promotional materials may lead you to believe. A family-oriented suburb, for the most part, with a small but increasingly vibrant downtown which has some great places to drink and eat. Lots of internship opportunities, if you don't mind traveling to DC, although there are some in the Frederick area. I wouldn't want to stay here after graduation, personally. Plenty of recreation, dining and shopping opportunities a short distance away from Hood's campus for students who live on campus. Not much to do for students who live on campus, from what I understand. Not a whole lot of parties, if that's your thing. Students are diverse, although the school leans a little liberal.

Overall, Hood isn't a bad school by any means. It just doesn't stand out and isn't worth the high tuition, especially if you can go to a state school and save money. Only go here if you have a real reason to.
