With the retirement of Dean Velvel its time for MSL to put on its big girl pants and work towards and receive ABA approval. These days less and less people want to attend law school, meaning that MSL's higher caliber, prospective students will more than likely elect to attend Suffolk, UMASS or NESL over MSL. A situation which will just hasten the demise of a school which actually does a decent job of teaching students how to be small town lawyers. Most of the complaints on here about MSL are from disgruntled former students and alumni who lack the intellectual fortitude for the practice of law, and never should have applied to law school. In order to avoid becoming completely irrelevant, rather than sending post cards to alumni offering application fee waivers to alumni recommended applicants, MSL should spend its talent and treasure attempting to earn ABA approval. The ABA may be the root of all evil; nevertheless, it is the gatekeeper to the profession, and ABA approval is the standard that nearly all state supreme courts use to judge whether or not an applicant is fit to sit for the bar exam. |
