While I am very thankful that I studied with the professors I studied with, some of whom are unique in the world, the department did very little to prepare me for the extreme competition I would face in the current academic market in my field. CIIS is OK if one is to get a professional psychology license, PsyD or MFT- one is assured of some level of employment upon graduation from the state mandated internship programs necessary to become licensed. Without that support, as an alumni, I have not yet found employment in my field, more than a year after graduation. When I was applying for positions, I was told my degree from CIIS, as an unranked private school (even though it is WASC accredited), is non-competitive- with those holding degrees from state universities and other private schools (Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, etc.) with excellent reputations. |
