I graduated in 1990-I transferred there and attended for 2 years. I had applied to New Brunswick, but ended up in Camden. I had a good experience at Rutgers-Camden. I had two great internships in Philly one at a museum and one at a gallery, and went on a study trip to Italy. There was a lot of individual attention and support from faculty.

At that time, there wasn't enough housing so I lived in Philly and commuted each day to school which was hard-but I had a cheap shared house. The surrounding area was pretty rough then-Its improved but just be aware of that. One night I came back from Philly and missed the local stop and had to walk through pimps and hookers, crack dealers etc. to get back to my house. Nothing bad happened-but it wasn't pleasant.Hopefully things have improved-since the '80s with the Aquarium and other improvements.

The majority of students were commuter students from S. Jersey which in general were a little different culturally than N.Jersey where I'm from.

I enjoyed the courses-they were pretty demanding and interesting. Summer classes were a little depressing though-being in a poor city with not much to do, and the place is emptier.
Things may have changed since I was there-but if you want to get a solid education I would recommend it; you have smaller classes and more of an individualized experience.You will also get on the mailing list for life and be able to participate in the excellent Alumni benefits.
