Wash U. was a great experience for me at the time; academically rigorous; very good teaching for the most part; great friends. It turned out to be fine preparation for my career in science and later in law. It was also not the pre-med juggernaut it has become, although pre-meds were still a prominent feature of the student body. If I was applying today, I'd be a bit concerned about the school's commitment to undergraduate training in non-biology/chemical fields. For example, my impression is that the engineering school, outside of biomed and chemical, is not what it used to be. Ditto for physics. I don't know what's happening in the humanities now; when I was there, philosophy and history were decent departments. |
