The academics at the college were amazing. There were great professors who really cared about you and would chat with you over office hours, and who still love to hear how you're doing years later. There were great discussions in small classes, the opportunity to take classes in other fields… I actually studied for a semester at a very prestigious university and came back because the classes were better. I got a very strong education there that has definitely contributed to my success, I left Allegheny very well prepared.

I wasn't as crazy about the social life. The college wasn't very diverse, despite their best efforts, and a lot of the people were just a little dull. I felt like the students were smart and talked about interesting things in class, but then once we were outside of class, that sense of purpose or excitement or curiosity was missing. For someone like me, who has always been a bit of a nerd and wanted to talk about things I was reading and big ideas, I felt out of place and often disappointed. There also wasn't much going on outside of heavy drinking on weekends, which was fun at first but got old, and it would have been nice to have more things to do.

I have no regrets and would go back, but part of me feels like I missed out a little on the college experience; if you see yourself as someone really intellectual and passionate it might not be the best fit.
