When you think about attending culinary school, you begin dreaming about how great the students, falculty, and of course how the food will be. You think that it is going to be the best but, when you attend for more than six months you find out the harsh reality. When i first took a tour of the campus the people where great, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was exciting. I fell in love with the culinary school of my dreams. It was not until 6 months after attending that i began to relize i was played. Before you even attend they put on a show to make you belive that nothing is flawed with their academics, facilites, staff, and even students. Here is a list of my top complaints about the Culinary Institute of America:

1. The cost of tuition is very high. What is scary is that you would think because you are spending outragous money to attend, you should be getting the best education, room/board, and student dining. Right? WRONG. at nearly $20,000 per semester (not per year) yeah per semester you have lousy dorms that were not updated since the 1980's, terrible student food that as an aspiring resturant owner, myself, would rather set my hair on fire first before i ever ate the food again.

2. The quality of education compared to the amount of money i am spending makes me want to jump off a cliff. The class sizes are too big with at least 18 students to one chef. The long class hours make you want to sleep the rest of the day and not do any homework. The chef instructors are hard to get a hold of outside of class and they all have there own way of doing things. But here is the best part about that, instead of teaching students that they are multiple ways of getting the same result. They go ahead and hold students accountable by taking off points if it is not done "their way". Which leads me to my next complaint.

3. The rules and regulations seem to be the main focus at this school than the education. If you miss a class do to ligitament reasons, you still are held accountable and if you miss 3 days you are removed from that class. To retake the same class you have to pay the same amount of money you paid the first time around. In other words you are double paying for the class. I understand that in the culinary field that missing work can have a huge impact but when they count that against students you become more focused on your grades and keeping the boss (the school) happy than actually learning. When i attended i was more worried about my grades and my finacial aid, then i was about focusing on learning. As a side note those touqes are horrible, hideous, get in the way thing, that nobody in the actual work world wear.

?4. The faculty for admissions, learning disabilities services, career and academic advising, and all other departments are ridiculously hard to get a hold of and work with. At a normal college you would call one of the departments up, get someone right there to awsner your call and help you out the same day. At the CIA they dont give two ***** about you. They are either not there to get the call and you are forced to leave a message. Which they will take there sweet *** time to get back to you on. If you are the lucky winner who can manage to have a living human being pick up your call, you then get the "i dont know", "well i dont know what to tell you", " i dont have the time to awnser your questions". So if I am wasting your time then stop the bs, and go work somewhere else! The staff is supossed to be there for you, to awsner, guide and educate you on your questions. Instead you get **** on and find out that they are all just their for the money. Honestly I have never had a more stressful, confusing, unorganized, abomination of what they call an, administration!

?5. The student parking is the most unplanned, unorganzied, entrapment of students I have ever seen. For those of you who have a car and wish to simply walk and get off campus don't bother. litterally it seems more like a workout than actually walking. You walk a mile just to get to the student parking. It feels like the college does not want students to leaverify.

Overall this places is an Abomination to The Culinary industry and should be shut down for the way they run things. It is a culinary hell and graveyard.
