I transferred out of Stevenson University for many reasons. First, EVERYONE (with the exception of a few stragglers from NY/NJ) is from Maryland. This being said, cliques are bound to happen/a huge chunk of people have known each other since high school, and possibly before that. These friend groups give off such a negative and intimidating vibe for no reason. Second, there is absolutely NO social life. If you think getting drunk in a dorm room with 3-5 other people is your idea of fun, then Stevie U is your place. There is 1 bar and probably 2 sports houses that the entire campus depends on to have fun, if you can even consider it that. 80% of the campus goes home on weekends and there is very little to do in the surrounding area, unless you're willing to drive 30 minutes to visit the inner harbor. Third, my advisor is horrible and had the nerve to tell me that "maybe you're not meant for college" because I had came in undecided and struggled to choose a major. Fourth, the campus itself is a glorified parking lot. Stevenson's main campus resembles more of a strip mall than a college campus. Although this was not a deciding factor in regards to my own reasoning for transferring, but so many students I knew transferred out of Stevenson after their first year and even their first semester for many of the same reasons as I did. As much as I loved my friends at Stevenson, they were not enough to make me stay. Stevie U did not feel like home, much how I pictured a college to feel like. I am much happier at my current university. |
