SEMO is not only the anus of American higher education, it is also a black hole designed to suck away life force and money. On all outward appearances, it is an affordable option to get a college degree. However, built in is a system of cruel bureaucracy, a perilous maze of fees and unnecessary required courses you must endure before you can get your sweet prize. Within my department - mass comm - there are some really ridiculously stupid pre reqs to be accepted into it. You come out of highschool equipped already with this knowledge and capability, but before you can learn anything usable in your field, you're going to have to prove it all over again, paying at least 700 dollars to do so. And if you're transferring, just forget it. They don't want your dumb credits from another school. I transferred after a semester at one school and have now spent a semester at SEMO. During my one semester at the other school, I learned soooo much, and it was all very useful. All of that information and experience at that other school - Stephen's College (very worth it) - helped me get my internship this summer. I have learned nothing from SEMO and they were completely unwilling to work with me regarding the knowledge I already have through the classes I've already taken. SEMO has done nothing but intentionally held me back. They would not let me count my internship for credit. They made me completely start over in my degree. When I asked for help I got no reply. When I pleaded for someone to make my process go smoother seeing as I'm already qualified, I was met with rude inflexibility. I'm only here because my parents are willing to help me pay for it and apparently I'm not allowed to drop out. I would rather drop out however. This school is worthless. This is a school that will do anything for profit and offers no customer service or guarantee to compensate for their greed.
