Texas A&M is a fun state college in a town that supports the university. If you love football and traditions, its a good choice. Unfortunately while they act like they help students even though they are a very large university…they really don't. Engineering is one of their premier majors yet the they don't have enough qualified tutors in the higher level classes beyond the basic intro stuff. Their professors aren't that good and classes can be large. It's also very difficult to get into classes. Their tuition is reasonable while on campus but they put a high cost on distance learning. If you need one class in the summer and you are not in college station, they will charge you a $670 fee and then another $1620 fee in addition to tuition! They like to get you on fees. Their study abroad has good opportunities but very expensive with an example $3600 administrative fee (on top of tuition and other university fees). The big issue is that the courses are challenging because some of the professors are poor teachers and the curriculum is difficult (as one would expect with engineering)and if you don't get a C you have to retake it. I would probably not choose Texas A&M again. The people are friendly but the administrative services - like student business services and housing are bureaucratic.
