Chaminade University is a great school to attend if you are a person who prefers smaller classes. I have just finished my first year here and I will type out my honest experience. If you are an out of state student coming here just because it is located in Hawaii, then you need to understand the conflicts. The first conflict is Hawaii's homeless issue. The area surrounding the school has a large amount of homeless people and many of them are quite crazy or drunk. On my way to bus stops and on the bus, dealing with these people made me really uncomfortable(some of these people get mad if you give them dirty looks). Another conflict is the expensive food prices of restaurants unless you choose to eat at McDonald's,Burger King, or Costco. The restaurant food prices in Hawaii are ridiculous which is why I ate on campus or at Costco usually. Then there is island fever which I got in only a few months after getting used to the land, culture and people here. Like any other school, there are a few cons at this school. I wish there were more majors to choose at this school but I guess the school is too small for that. One other thing you have to be aware of is that the students are usually friendly but are really cliquey, especially the girls. They form their own groups and one or more people in the group will really hate it if you are uninvited and go along with their group anyway. There are good things such as individual attention, which I got from instructors. Some of my instructors have been approachable and had a great sense of humor. Like any other school there are both good and bad instructors. What I also like is that because it is a small school, knowing where everything is on campus is pretty simple after a few months. I do recommend joining clubs as it is a good way to meet people.
