I have read several bad reviews about DePauw here, and I must admit that while a share a few of their sentiments about the administration, I want to point out that this could be said about a majority of universities across the country. As for the reviews about Greek life impacting people who are independent, I myself am not in Greek life and still have a very active social life and wonderful circles of friends, both Greek and independent. Being independent is not a horribly lonely path like some of these posts claim. In fact, I would wager that those people are more introverted and did not go out of their way to meet people in extracurriculars, clubs, and even outside of classes. If they did not like their DePauw experience that much, why would they stay and pay $60,000 when other places that may have suited them better would be cheaper? I have learned that the way to get the most out of your education here is to MAKE opportunities for yourself by going to the Hubbard Center, asking faculty for connections/help, and really taking advantage of everything that is offered, whether it be lectures, concerts, or scholarships, etc. People who complain here, I've noticed, are lazy and sit on their hands, waiting for something to come and sit right in their lap. If you're interested in coming here, you need to know that you have to be proactive in your own education (anywhere, really) to get the most out of it!I have met so many wonderful people, peers and faculty alike, here that have made this experience so worthwhile! The memories I've made here are irreplaceable and I wouldn't even think about trading them for anything else! There's an extensive, supportive alumni network that will serve you well for the rest of your life and I look forward to being one of them to pay it forward!Greencastle is a tiny city, but Plainfield is only 30-45 minutes away, which has everything you could need. Indy is a bit less than 1 hour away as well, so there are options. Even if you don't have a car, many people carpool with friends and go on fun weekend excursions!Overall, a positive experience! |
