Well, if you have a huge inferiority complex, like many in Appalachia, Berea would be a great place for you. Most staff and professors believe that they are doing a humanity-saving mission by educating supposedly disadvantaged youth. So, if you don't like their mostly useless assignments, they will think you're wasting their "free" education, become defensive, and attack you outright. One said I should just drop out. Despite this, some believe there are some well-run departments, which I do not know. But what my friends and I feel is that students are just newspaper ads to attract donors wand to give faculty and staff a justification to keep their jobs. Now, if you don't have an inferiority complex and want a REAL education, please AVOID this school like a plague. Let me state this plain and clear: it's not free. YOU SPEND FOUR YEARS OF YOUR LIFE! If you graduate with a worthless paper which can't give you a better job than high school dropouts (source: US Department of Education, Berea grads earn lower than dropouts), then your four years are better spent in PRISON. Prison won't damage your self-esteem. Berea will. So, if you are looking for a place to educate, please take out loans and go wherever. I am now taking another degree from accredited Open University, UK, online. Let me tell you that OU offers a far better education than Berea. So, let me summarize my time spent in Berea: A total waste and slavery in which I was used as a newspaper ads. |
