Beautiful campus right in the middle of nowhere. BHSU is a nice friendly campus with great safety, nice people, and a small campus with a small student body. There are all kinds of outdoor adventures to be had, from skiing, biking, fishing, rock climbing, and all kinds of sports stuff. This entire area is a dream come true for die-hard outdoor adventurists.

However, living in a small town in the middle of nowhere is not for everyone. There is no local city club life so don't expect to party a lot at all.

This is a farmer town, lots of ranch kids and local church groups that have bake sales and get together for football games and holiday parades. The college school spirit isn't that great, it's mostly an excuse to get together and eat food.

So, while there aren't big club parties, this place instead has a peaceful outdoor life, there's barely any crime around here.

BHSU is very welcoming, I've found that in the history department the professors are more than willing to help out, offer advice, and just talk about whatever comes to mind.

If you chose the history degree track you'll come to find that it's the smallest department of the entire college. There are barely any scholarships for history degree's so you have to study hard for good grades to get the few available.

There are lots of history internships in nearby cities like Deadwood, Keystone, Hill City, and Gillette. most of which are about an hours drive away. which can be hard if your a student with no car, well internships aren't happening. There are no history internships on campus.

The dorm halls are nice and easy to live in, they run on a fall and spring semester. However, you must leave during a 3 week Christmas break and the week-long spring break, or pay upwards of over $500 dollars to stay. there is no summer housing for students.

Being a homeless student and going to this school is practically impossible, there is no local homeless shelter and the college does not provide any emergency housing. You will risk freezing in the winter months here which can be very brutal.

Good luck!

I've enjoyed my time so far, it's not easy but it's the dream of a college degree that gets me a decent livable job and a comfy home that keeps me going
