Honestly, these harsh reviews shocked me. I have attended Southern for three years and I absolutely love the school. The campus can feel so small and welcoming. If you make an effort, even the janitors will remember and smile at you, as will Southern's police officers. From working on the e-board of a club for three years, I have closely met with the administration and they have been wonderful, as well. There are many opportunities here to do more—from joining research programs, clubs, working on campus, or working with professors on their own passion projects. Ev the shuttle drivers will remember you and ask how you're doing! The city of New Haven has a lot going on, from biannual College Nights to amazing food, which is a great asset even for a commuter. Southern's multicultural center and interfaith offices are welcoming, engaging, and caring. President Joe goes above and beyond to be on top of both school events and local events, and my friends and I have been able to personally meet and chat with him multiple times. Southern is what you make of it—it wasn't my first choice and my decision to go there was more so out of convenience, but I am so happy I did. The professors are also INCREDIBLE! A handful also teach/have taught at other universities such as Yale, UCONN, or Quinnipiac, making them well-rounded and sometimes it feels like a bargain to learn from them! On the advising side, I've had advisors respond to me even at 10 p.m. to answer questions regarding my class schedule, or be able to fit in an appointment with me the next day if I need it. |
