Berkeley is an amazing school. Much to my surprise, it has a beautiful campus. The dorms in the clark kerr campus are huge, and the food is actually acceptable. Berkeley is a lot "bigger" of a city than i thought it would be. There's a lot of stuff to do. The sky's the limit when it comes to eating and going out, with Oakland and San Francisco right by it. Lots of students go down to Santa Barbara, or up to Lake Tahoe. Its a very active campus, but it will surprise you to see that not that many students study. Its not because they're brillant, but rather because they procrastinate. Some of the people at UCB are horrible. They're disattached from society, they have attitudes, and aren't very helpful. However, there are people for everyone. My friends, are amazing, brillant, and extreme ambitious. With 30,000 people, you're sure to find someone, but i highly suggesting moving away from your home. I live in San Francisco, and while i moved into the dorms, i haven't really experienced life away from home. Bottom line, after going to berkeley its really hard to see paying $30,000 for an education (a year). You could possibly simply pay the tution for four years ($16,000) and live at home if close by. Now imagining going to a private school, for $25,000 a year in tution alone… yeah…that's what i thought. As for out of staters, who feel like they're being shafted, all the out-of-staters think that berkeley's worth it (i dont' think so, but my roommates do). If you go to UCB, you'll meet amazing people, you'll have remarkable opportunities opened up to you, with amazing professors in beautiful buildings teaching you. UCB is definately worth it, but if you live close by it, you might want to think about moving away. |
