Despite the low grades in some areas, Northwest-Shoals is still one of the best community colleges in Alabama. The quality of the education you'll receive at NW-SCC is superior to that of most other Alabama College System community colleges; if you plan on transferring, NW-SCC's A.A. and A.S. programs are more than adequate. The technical programs are outstanding also. The low "Campus Aesthetics" grade pertains mainly to the Shoals Campus, which began life as a tech school and still retains a little of that atmosphere. As for the surrounding town, the Shoals area is ok, but Phil Campbell has nothing to offer college students at all. If you're not sure about going to college and you're considering NW-SCC, give it a shot. I ended up going to NW-SCC instead of a major university and I'm glad I did. It's a great place to complete freshman- and sophomore-level courses.
