Attending UCSD for the short time I did was the worst experience of my college career. I was unhappy most of the time and felt like I had been returned to high school after having transferred from a two-year college. The students are generally self-absorbed, spoiled, and arrogant (again, that's generally—there are some perfectly decent people there, but you have to search for them). Going to UCSD is not the be-all and the end-all of life's experience, thank God. I didn't care much about campus activities, so I'm not much of an expert on that matter, but don't expect to get terribly involved if you have to commute, or even worse if you have a job. Cliques are prevalent—again, I felt like I was in high school again when it came to maturity levels and how I was treated, especially as a transfer student. The general opinion seems to be that if you haven't been there from the beginning, you're not really worth the time. The classes were ridiculously easy—I took harder courses at the community college! Professors are alright, but it's the overall atmosphere that turned me off and caused me to transfer somewhere else, where I felt more appreciated and more welcomed as part of the campus community.
