If you are going to college because your parents expect you to, you will love SEMO. The courses are easy and the professors, at least most of them are preoccupied with their favorites or with other jobs or projects off campus.

If you are a serious student like myself, I am a non trad student, SEMO is just usefull to get a degree but you won't be prepared for the career you have been studing for when you leave. You will waste lots of money on classes taught by professors who just give grades based on whether or not they like you or whether or not you rocked the boat wanting to be taught something useful.

So far I have been called a theif by one of the financial aid officers for not wanting to devulge info on my parents, I am 40 years old, my parents aren't my keepers!

Because of Dr. Mary Morrell-Art History I, I have probably lost my scholarship because one of my professors gave me a "C" in her class when I did "A" work. She dropped my 4.0 GPA!!! I have been on the deans list since my freshman year and I am now a sophomore. This professor is new. She came to replace a bad professor and it turns out she is mentally ill. She is forgetful, unorganized, ill tempered, especially if you ask about your grade in her class, and changes her mind about assignments every five minutes. She changed the format and the information that would be on our final exam at least 5 times, the last time being the night before the exam so that most people didn't know it had changed!!!!!!!!!!!! She has come at me discussing something apparently very upsetting to her, like we had been conversing for hours, when I had not seen her for several minutes. She was pulling at her hair and really did give me quite a scare. I thought something really bad had happened and then when I realized she thought she had been speaking to me about this unknown subject I knew something bad had happened, SEMO had hired the worst professor I have ever seen and the poor woman needs psychological help!

I won an award for selling a piece of art at the student juried art show and had to wait almost a whole year to get the printed award!

My last time sheet while working on campus as work study, was not approved by my supervisor, some stranger I have never heard of had to approve my time because my supervisor left for break and forgot to approve it. This is the same person who took almost a year to print my art award!

I have had and will have again a professor who spends his time hiding in his office writing letters and making phone calls regarding his work with a local outside organization instead of teaching us anything of any use at all. This professor didn't give tests or grades. He waited until the very end of the semester to tells us how we were doing so for those of us with scholarships, who watch our grades couldn't make any changes or try to better if necessary. When I approached him about making the class better by giving a quiz over our reading, he gave a test with questions like,

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop!
I found this very demeaning and very insulting! He took my concerns and made fun of them right in our faces!

Don't take classes with Paul Schock-Art Department, Dr. Mary Morrell-Art Department (she is mentally ill) honestly, I am not being dramatic.

Oh and last but not least if you hold good grades and hard work in high esteem forget SEMO. I have been told by most of my professors in the art department that grades aren't that important. I have also been given the excuse that artists only use one side of their brains, the creative side and details and grades and such just aren't within their comprehension!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you care about grades don't attend SEMO, academic success isn't important there.
