Georgia Tech is over stereotyped, and although many of the stereotypes are true, Tech is what you make of it. If you choose to live in shitty dorms with nerdy people who play video games all day then no you won't have a social life. But if you get involved from intramurals to greek organizations to other clubs on campus you will meet a lot of determined and interesting people. Some people go to college to learn, some to party. If all you care about it partying, then don't come here. Yes, there are not many girls, but not every girl is ugly. In fact there are quite a few sororities that defy the snobby stuck up stereotype that sororities get at other big public universities. The classes are hard, they are supposed to be. Tech expects you to be a mature adult and do your part to learn. Not all professors will be fair and you won't be able to understand them all, but 99% of the time if you research your professors and classes before you register and plan carefully you can get good professors. Doing well in a class is almost entirely based on the amount of effort you put in. People that come here are smart, so they expect it to be like high school where as long as they go to class and semi-pay attention you will get an A. Wrong! You have to go to class, do all homework, and study study, but honestly if you are in a major you enjoy and put in the effort getting above a 3.0 is no problem. It's all a matter of discipline. You can balance work with fun, as long as your fun doesn't interfere with class. Like I said before…if you are here to go to the bar 5 nights a week, well then I doubt your grades will be as good as someone who goes out once a week, and weekends. Networking is key, get word on classes, ask people about other professors, study groups, etc all will help you out. Much of the school is antisocial but you will learn that there are social people. Get to know the students in your major, you will share many classes with them and like I said before doing homework and studying in groups always helps. I admit at times I say I hate this school and all that other stuff that Tech is stereotyped for, but your experience will depends on your attitude. If you look at Tech as a horrible boring place you are forced to go to for 4-5 years, well I doubt you will enjoy it. If you take the opportunity to invest time into your work and find things to get invovled in, you will enjoy your college experience and the awesome degree!
