UCSF did nothing out of the ordinary in preparing me for working in pharmacy. In my opinion UCSF curriculum and professors made it much more difficult and frustrating. UOP is a smarter curriculum and from what I hear have a better group of professors. The success I have in pharmacy practice did not come because I went to UCSF. I have that success in spite of having gone to UCSF. I recommend students talk to alumni and listen closely to how they respond to questions about UCSF. If you attend UCSF, understand your place. You are a student. You know nothing or at least you are assumed to know little. Your opinion means less. You will not be treated professionally by any professor and their teaching "style" is to withhold information from students to secure their power. UCSF is a very arrogant group of professors who find teaching to be a nuisance at best. The students suffer greatly for the lack of inspiration from the professors. UCSF students have to work harder. The professors present themselves not as preceptors or mentors but as a barrier between information you need to move onto your goal of being the best pharmacist you want to be. I am not alone in this opinion. I attended several town hall meetings with the dean, Dr. Koda-Kimble, and the students. Dr. Koda-Kimble said herself that she has been worried about the ever increasing number of students that do not recommend UCSF and found their experience at UCSF to be negative. It is a growing problem. This opinion of mine is to press upon you to look hard into what attending UCSF is like. Talk to alumni. Talk to several.
