I thought I would be coming to Manhattan College to experience the city and the culture. Instead, I have experienced the cultures of Westchester, Long Island, and New Jersey. The only international students are athletes. The most diverse group of people is the baseball team, since half of them are from Miami. If I could have a talk with prospective students, I would love to tell them how I feel. The school is not too helpful. Being in the business school, the career services is a joke. The only jobs available are for shady financial firms and accounting majors. Thats great for accounting majors, but what about everybody else? I honestly don't think any of my professors have been in the "real world". One marketing professor was hired as soon as he graduated from Manhattan College to be a professor! How can students possible learn about the real world if the school is hiring unexperienced professors? The marketing department is a joke. I have learned more textbook material than anything else. All I wanted was one marketing plan project, but nope, got nothing! How can a marketing major graduate college without knowing how to write a marketing plan? Residence life is awful. The internet is always down, and it better not be raining or snowing or windy, because then you won't get TV either. After about 5 attempts for them to turn on the heat last year, they finally did, IN FEBRUARY! So on those cold nights in November, December, and January, you better have more than 1 blanket to cover yourself at night. Overall my experience has been awful. I would never make the decision to go to Manhattan College if I knew any of this beforehand. If you want a degree, then go to Manhattan College, because they sure love handing them out! However, if you are looking for a college experience that prepares you for the real-world, then look elsewhere. I honestly think I would have gotten a better education and experience at a community college back at home in Massachusetts. And trust me, that isn't saying much.
