I really enjoyed the quality of education I had at Portland Community. I went to the Sylvania campus, which was beautiful, had wonderful professors, and had by far the best course selection. It was a very enjoyable experience from an academic standpoint.

I moved to Portland for my first year of college to try it out and see what the city was all about, and to be honest, I hated it. Portland is not the place for you if you're from a fast paced, east coast setting like I was, or if you're involved in political science for the bigger picture. I found that the students, much more so than the staff, adopted a know-it-all attitude, and refused to see the world past Portland. Portlanders are very snobby when it comes to their city, which isn't all that great to begin with. Plus, there was about zero diversity in the college, but being as the state of Oregon is 93% white, that's not surprising. That just really bothered me, especially since everyone was preaching tolerance, whilst ignoring the fact that there was very little diversity.

All in all, a great place to go for academics, and a great place to be if you're a Portlander through and through. East coasters…go to Seattle.
