Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
I came to Manhattan as a transfer in my Junior year. At first I was worried I'd be the only transfer since it's a small school, but I pleasantly found that many students transfer in. I transfered from a medium large state school and found MC to be just the right size. The campus itself is mostly based on the quad and a couple of buildings close by. The Campus itself is all brick and is nicely landscaped with loads of trees and flowers, which is very opposite from being in the Bronx. Since the school is small don't expect the prototype college atmosphere you see in most college movies. Most of the partying is done off campus at the local bars or a train ride into the City. Having an ID is essential and is a must to maximize the city. Other then that a good portion of students live off campus and will have parties. The food is by far the absolute worst food I have ever had in college. While you have dinning cash to spend on campus places, the food quality and choices are limited. Unlike most school MC doesn't do off campus dinning cash which you can use at Dunking Donuts like NYU. There are several parking lots but are usually filled, MC is in the process of building a 24/7 parking lot on Broadway. Probably the greatest thing about MC is that the 1 train is right off campus and Van Cortlandt Park is right across the street. Most of the students come from the suburbs near by and many commute or go home on the weekends. Not much diversity is found at MC. Our student activities host some great events such as shows at MSG, cheap Yankees games, Knicks games, hockey games, concerts, etc. Our security is the biggest joke for a city school, but don't worry MC is located in Riverdale, which should be considered a suburb not part of the Bronx. Our athletic teams are D1 but are terrible. Our most well known sports program is our basketball team but for the past couple of years have sucked . The school academically is great if your a engineer , but is going through growing pains because MC's program with MSV is ending next year. So if you a communication major like me be aware of this because next year MC will have it's own brand new Communications department, which means a lackluster department for now. Even though this sounds cliche, Manhattan does offer the best of both worlds, a safe suburban like setting, with the Manhattan as your playground. And Yes MC in not located in Manhattan but the Bronx.
