So many of the students come from Memphis public schools and they are barely at the high school level, so they should not be here yet. So many professors dumbed down their classes due to this because the students didn't belong here. The school gouges the students for every single little charge. Their use of technology for student functions, and staff functions, are about 5 years behind. The ammenities in so many buildings are horrible and they ought to be ashamed for charging the tuition rates they do for such a mediocre school. If you need disabled acessible parking, they consider it GATED parking so charge a higher rate because, quoting a woman from the legal counsel office,"…it is not fair to the other students that a handicapped person gets premium parking at a regular rate." This woman also compared being pregnant with a person having a permanent physical disability - mainly a missing limb. So many of the professors are LONG past retirement. However, the university gladly touts their basketball team that has a, what, 10% graduation rate? You have to pay for a mailbox each semester if you want to get mail, and it is a separate charge. Parents, unless your child isn't too bright, send them elsewhere. The city is in shambles. There was a murder of a football player on campus in September 2007, about a 1/10 of a mile from the on campus elementary school. Budget shortfalls come from the waste. Cut the administrators because this place has too much overlap and too many queen bees and not enough drones. Lines are long, things take many inquiries before getting it done right. If one must come to Memphis, go to Christian Brothers or Rhodes College - they are much better.
