Hello! I will be a Pomona freshman next year and i want to major in PPA. Is the problem that Pomona doesn't have connections in the social sciences or is funding for unpaid internships the only problem? |
Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
faculty is friendly and accessible, but administration officials are aloof or, at best, condescending; opportunities for the non-privileged are few and nonexistent, especially when it comes to career services. Internships/research opportunities for the social sciences and humanities are atrocious, and the Career Development Office is anemic in its support. For all its rhetoric about advancing social justice and correcting inequality, Pomona refuses to give serious support to those seeking a career in public service—i.e. don't expect any funding whatsoever for unpaid internships, and don't expect CDO officials to be knowledgeable about opportunities in the field, administration officials also tend to be obtuse on the subject. Friendly people, bad administration, poor resource allocation, and unequitable policies make for a subpar experience if you want to get ahead.
