Run for your life's sake and you wallet's sake if you plan on attending the dental hygiene program at this school. There is no structure or support from the actual school. The program is ran exactly how the teachers involved want to run it and if you are mistreated or discriminated against (which has occurred every year since the program opened 7 years ago) there is nothing you can do about it. Holly Knutson is a teacher there and former head of the department. She is absolutely prejudice and favors only students who have been dental assistants and have their certification. She will swear at you and put you down every chance she gets. She hates her job and expresses that to you everyday. She will turn instructors, that answer to her as their lead teacher against you because they are in fear of losing their jobs. She is such a vicious spiteful human being and will go to great lengths to assure she gets everything done her way. Immediately when you enter the program you are warned about an instructor and let me assure you they are speaking about Holly. Nobody likes her or wants to be anywhere near her during clinic classroom time. She has failed students based on a popularity contest and has kept them from graduating or allowing them to take their board exams because she didn't like them. Students who have had her to this day still experience nightmares. In one case she held a student back from taking her board exams because she told her she isn't ready and she doesn't want her to fail and drop the average of the school's passing rate and instead of holding off the student went to another state, took the clinical board exam and received 100%. Another example she begged a student to return to the school after failing her the previous year. Holly told her that everything was there and she should become a teacher at their school she just needed a little more practice. The student returned and Holly failed her for the second year now she is over $10,000 in debt and lost 2 years of her life for nothing. Students from every graduated class have confirmed that Holly is a very hateful person and made their college years miserable when they should have been the best years of their life. If you are considering Rock Valley for Dental Hygiene please be assured you are in for very regretful experience. All the students end up on depression pills and anti anxiety medication to help cope with the conditions they are subjected to as well as the appalling treatment they receive from Holly and her band of demons. If you are interested in attending this school visit a rockford dental office 9 times out of 10 the hygienist you receive will be a former victim of Holly?s who can verify that the way she acts and treats students is severely unethical. Many of the area dentist are wary of hiring RVC graduates because they have to completely retrain them due to the instilled fear inside them and the erratic ergonomics that have been repeatedly forced on students to follow. Some of the positions you are forced to work in only excel the likely hood of developing carpel?s tunnel as well as neck and back problems. If you are planning on relocating to the rockford area for this program or if you are currently living in the area and interested in becoming a hygienist steer clear of the Rock Valley College Dental Hygiene program. Keep in mind Rockford is over run with dental hygienists due to the local school and there are not many job opportunities in the this area. Above all the inappropriate treatment you receive from your time at this school and the continued fear and self worthlessness you leave with will take years to get over. For your own mental health and you family?s mental health find a school that will appreciate you as a person and treat you like a human being!
