Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
This is my first year attending Mercyhurst College. I visited many schools before I came to Mercyhurst, and once I drove onto campus I knew this was the one. I was accepted to St. John's University in New York City, University of Tampa, Allegheny College, and Penn State Behrend. I was accepted to all of the schools I applied to with the exception of Penn State University Park.

I am still very happy about my decision to choose Mercyhurst. I have had a lot of success with my teachers and they are very approachable. In every class that I have taken so far (9) all of my teachers have known my name. When I have an issue I email my teachers and they are all very quick to get back to me. I feel that the quality of learning here is very good. I have been challenged in most of my classes so far, especially those in my major.

Previous comments had mentioned the quality of food at Mercyhurst. To clarify, Mercyhurst just hired a new company in the dining hall and the food is actually very good. I consider myself a picky eater, my mother loves to cook and I grew up eating her wonderful meals, and I find it surprising how much I actually enjoy the food here.
Yes Mercyhurst is very pricey, that I cannot deny. But throughout high school I maintained a GPA of 3.5 or above (and a very low SAT score :( of 1150) however, I have a great scholarship from Mercyhurst of $12,000 a year if I maintain a GPA here of 3.5. Which is, I'll admit, very challenging for my major, but very doable. Most people that I know of here are on some sort of scholarship.
Also, it is no secret that the campus at Mercyhurst is beautiful. During the warm months there are flowering gardens everywhere. Since it is such a small campus, maintenance does not have a difficult time keeping up with the aesthetics.

There was also a previous comment about buildings falling down and apart. For the last two summers Mercyhurst began renovating many of their buildings. Egan hall, which once was home to gross tiny little dorm rooms now holds offices. And a brand new freshmen coed dorm (Warde) has been built. The rooms are awesome and each has its own bathroom (which is basically unheard of for freshmen dorms!) Baldwin (all girls) is also a very nice building. It's nowhere near as nice as Warde, but it's cheaper and closer to the classes and the dining hall. McAuley (all male) however, is one building that is in major need of an overhaul.

Another comment stated that there is nothing to do on the weekends at Mercyhurst. I would argue that this is not true. Although you do need to do the footwork to find out what is going on. Many clubs are putting together activities every weekend, and if you're looking to party, they're not hard to find.

Overall, my experience at Mercyhurst so far has been great. I love this school and I'm proud to go here. I truly feel like I'm getting a great education and I'm meeting great people.
