First of all, this has got to be one of the worst universities in America. There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about it: it's just plain ugly. (In contrast to Rhodes College, which is beautiful). It is located in a very dangerous area, and it is run in a sloppy way. The student population is almost entirely African-American, and if you are a White student, the others will not smile at you, make eye-contact, or talk and try to be friends. Not hostile, exactly, but cold and rude. Quite. This school is very racially-devided, only it's the Black students who dislike the Whites, and not the other way around. If you are a Black student, you will make lots of friends and be very happy. The Whites who go here generally look depressed, frustrated, confused, and wishing they were at some other university. If you are neither White nor Black, you will feel beyond isolated at this school. The IQ level at the University of Memphis has got to be one of the lowest in the nation. Zero intellectual conversations on campus. The faculty are okay, I guess. There are about six very bright, interesting people in the philosophy department (who wish they were teaching elsewhere). They are the ones having intelligent conversations, not the students.
