Widener University

First of all, don't disregard Widener because you think you'll get shot or something. I can assure you that more crime happens at Temple or Drexel than at Widener. Usually the people who exaggerate about the crime on campus are the rich, pampered kids who grew up in farm country that have no clue about being "street smart". If you walk around late at night with a skimpy dress on and are half-conscious because you drank so much—you will get attacked. If you count your money like an idiot outside, you will get robbed. The campus is totally safe, and most of the crime happens OUTSIDE of campus, in Chester. Also, Widener is not in the heart of Chester, it's right at the border. A mile or so out, and you're in Ridley, so it's pretty safe.

The education is much better than I thought it would be. I went in to Widener because I needed a lot of financial support (even though I could have gotten in anywhere because my stats were so good) and I wasn't really expecting much because they really accept anyone into their school. However, I realized that because of this, Widener staff values bright students much more than other schools. They practically come and BEG you to do research with them, or just come and talk to them in their office. They invite you to trips or conferences—all in all, a lot of doors are opened for you if you are bright and choose Widener. Also, classes are actually pretty tough. The students might be a little thick, but the professors all have PhDs. You have to study hard if you want an A, so don't expect an easy ride all four years.

I do have to admit, the social life is pretty lacking. I never go to frat parties anyway (SO LAME) but if you want to have fun, that's still possible. I went out with my friends lots of times, either to the city or one of the two malls located quite near the campus. We had fun getting lost and finding new restaurants and partying 'til the wee hours of the night. But we stayed SAFE by staying in large groups and looking out for each other and NOT DRINKING. Something bad is bound to happen to you anywhere if you drink irresponsibly, so don't blame Chester if you're drinking and you get into some trouble.

Anyway, I strongly recommend Widener if you're looking for a relaxing and fun college experience. It's a great school. Everyone is seriously dying to get you to join their clubs or come to their activities. Plenty of stuff to do if you stay bright. :)
