I went to Tiffin on both an academic and athletic scholarship and was in the honors college. After one year at Tiffin, I decided to transfer. I do NOT recommend attending this university. Academically I did not feel challenged at all except in my honors college classes. The other, average, classes were easy and did not require much effort to receive a 4.0. The residence life staff and the athletic department staff were very unprofessional. Residence Life staff was extremely unsatisfactory, every situation I personally was involved in was handled improperly. I did make some great friends while I was at Tiffin, but the remainder of my peers were not people who I wanted to be surrounded by. I got many of my things stolen and vandalized. There was a tendency for people to be violent and ignorant. The involvement with my peers (besides my friends) was not something I felt enhanced my experience considering the frequent negative activities my peers engaged in. In my opinion, a good college is filled with people who want to learn, care about their success, and are trying to better themselves, but this was not the case for the majority of students at Tiffin. Tiffin University tries to make everything look so great when you visit and are deciding whether or not to attend, but reality is not mirroring the promises they make. They trick you with the housing and make you sign this agreement as a freshman that you will likely despise. As an incoming freshman you HAVE to live on campus until you are a senior and all of the years that you live on campus you HAVE to have some sort of meal plan. They are just trying to suck MORE money out of you. The cafeteria at Tiffin is awful. There are bugs flying in the salad bar, cheap/unappetizing entrees are constantly served, and they are frequently running out of essentials such as milk, drinks, eggs, etc. Athletically I was promised things that never happened. And then the department handled things very unprofessionally. The campus itself is very small. It looks pleasing to the eye, but the people have made it a bad environment. Certainly not the type of environment I would PAY for, let alone?pay PRIVATE TUITION costs for. I do not think students are receiving the quality of degree they think they are going to get. Because of their poor academics I decided to leave in search of a better program. Initially I was a Homeland Security major, but realized that I was not receiving the education I was expecting and transferred schools and switched my major. Also, another note?this isn?t the reason I decided to leave, but they are negative qualities I think are important to some. The town is very small, no night life, not a ?party school?. Every ?big? party, such as Halloween night, will be shut down by the police. Every party that is in the on campus housing will get shut down and everyone will be written up. Residence life makes the college experience feel like high school. Because of the small size of the school and the amount of drama, many refer to Tiffin as ?Tiffin High School?. It is not somewhere that made me want to be better or strive for success. Overall, it is a huge waste of money. Research your school before you attend, do not make the same mistake as I did and get fooled by the ?show? they put on to get you there. Underneath that act, is the ?real? Tiffin?and it is not a pretty sight. Please do not waste your money.
