Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
This is what I have to say about Herzing University ONLINE program. I major in Business Management so keep in mind each program may be different. Anyways, the school uses Blackboard which is extremely user friendly. It's very self explanatory. The programs are spectacular. I truly did learn new things that I didn't realize I was going to be able to learn over a computer. That was part of my fear about online school was that I wouldn't be able to learn because I wouldn't have anyone to reach out to. That's where I am glad I was proven wrong at. The teachers are very willing to help and let you know they are willing to help. I find the discussion boards to be a bit of "busy work" however, I understand there has to be something to provide the classroom experience over the internet. Classes aren't so challenging that you can't learn them online. But you really do have to apply yourself. I do complete my classes online but you still have to spend quality time and hours to your schoolwork. Traditional school, you may spend 8 hrs a day on school. To stay on track with online school, I devote 4 hours a day 5 days a week to school. It does free more hours of your day up, but it's still alot for someone who works full time and has a family to tend to. Overall, Herzing has been a great learning experience and I do recommend them to anyone, after you consider my reasoning that has brought me to transfer away from Herzing Universiy. Tuition is OUTRAGEOUS!!! $6000 per semester. To begin, I guess it's my fault. I calculated 2 semesters per year for 4 years which in my mind calculated to $48,000 minus $20,000 with my fafsa, leaving me with $28000 debt when graduated which is way more than I am comfortable with, but hey, its going to be worth it right? Much to my dismay, halfway through the year, I come to fully understand, with online school, there are actually 3 semesters per year. Which brought tuition from $12000 a year to $18000. This brought my total program from $48000 to $72000 and with fafsa $52000. That is crazy expensive! They get away with it because people forget they have to repay them loans. Well, I don't. Also, they are so expensive, that even qualifying for the full fafsa amount, used my full allowance of student loans for the 1st year(9500) and also awarded a $50 scholarship for my GPA($50 off $72000? Woohoo lol) I still owed $700 at the end of my 1st year to be able to start my 3rd semester. So, this is a great school. They do teach you and they do provide you with all the support and resources you need to succeed. However, they are not supplying you with $72000 worth of education. Even though its a for profit school, this is still crazy expensive. I read that each teacher is paid about $2500 per course they teach. Two students tuition would pay that teachers salary and the class has 30 students! This is just money hungry. There is no excuse for it. Where is the other $40000 they made for that specific course. It didn't books. They are all ebooks. So, while the school paid for them once…they are selling the same book over and over and over again. I just don't see why it should be this expensive. I know college is known to be expensive but this is just over the top. This isn't even some big ivy league great school. Just ordinary. Anyone can get in but it is left up to you to apply yourself and stay in. If Herzing would lower tuition they would probably actually make more money because people would find a truly affordable quality online college. But no, they are money hungry.
