Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
Coming from a college and spending a few years working in the aviation field as a technician, I wanted something more out of life. I decided to apply to Nipissing as it was in my hometown and I could save a few bucks by living at home. Nipissing is a great school for nursing and teaching, which is in my opinion why it's even on the map. I always had a vision in my head about how hard university was and this kinda swayed me away from it in the first place, along with always having an ability to work with my hands. The business program here is kind of weak. The profs are great, but they mostly just read off power point slides. It's very seldom that you will get a prof who will actually teach you real world knowledge about business in the workplace. I have been applying to other schools in Canada and I feel like I will get a better chance elsewhere. Nipissing is a great school to get the basics, but in order to succeed you will need to get involved in a lot of extra curricular and make many connections within the community. The courses I have taken so far are all fairly easy, in the sense that I don't feel like I have been challenged even close to my highest ability. The atmosphere is very laid back, coming from a northern community, it feels very slow paced here. If you're big on hunting, fishing, hiking, and wildlife, North Bay has it all.The social life on campus is nice, it's like a small community where most people know each other well and usually get along. There are a few bars around town, and one of the best bars is right on campus (The Wall). If you're looking for a great post-secondary school experience, I would consider Nipissing to be a great choice. None the less I feel like it still lacks academically. They just don't have the alumni and ties to the community in order for their students to receive rewarding careers, in business anyways. Don't let my opinion sway you away from Nipissing, many students that come here love it and wouldn't have it any other way, another reason as to why I chose this school.
