As a BU Alumni let me just tell you this:

1. Whatever major you choose to pursue, do yourself a favor and do a lot of research on what the job market / outlook is like for your chosen degree. Also, MAKE AN EFFORT TO SPEND WEEKS AND EVEN MONTHS WITH A SEASONED PROFESSIONAL IN YOUR DREAM FIELD BEFORE ENROLLING IN UNIVERSITY. I cannot stress this enough. Spending your days on glossy blogs and filtered Instagram accounts of the people you think you admire because of their jobs / lives is not the actual realty of things. Trust me. Get to know yourself before doing anything drastic such as taking out a $60 000 student loan.

2. If you were popular in high school you will love Bishop's. The student government is run by the "popular" kids, and by "popular" I mean students who have very wealthy parents and who mostly come from the GTA. If you are different and still choose to go to BU for whatever reason, then let me tell you this -focus on your studies (it's why you're there anyway. Surround yourself with people who share your values and interests. Don't mind the others who make you feel inferior (because they will try). Network with people in the field you wish to pursue and don't mind the bullshit on campus(because there's a lot of bullshit on campus). If you try to participate in an activity and feel left out or rejected, start your own event / charity / event / blog and be GREAT. What the cool kids don't know is that nobody really cares about them, so just let them believe they're better than you…they're not.

3. Stay away from the football players - don't ask, just trust.

4. Remember that how far you go in life depends entirely on YOU. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. Don't be afraid to pursue your own interests, start your own company, and so on. A degree is nice, but it won't complete you. It's a piece of paper that confirms that you read a lot of books that, at the end of the day, you could've purchased and studied on your own…

5. Have fun, don't get too hurt when something or someone breaks your heart. You're a kid and you'll grow and you'll survive.

Finally…wear purple, have fun, go for a jog and enjoy the scenery, enjoy your youth…

The world is yours, best of luck.
