Question
“Spelman is an excellent college.Biology
Spelman is an excellent college. The Biology department prepared me well for the rigors of medical school. Students who follow the curriculum outline and take all major classes at Spelman will do well. There is no easy way to success in medical school. Consistent hard work will have positive results.

Question
“Spelman College is an EXCELLENT liberal arts institutionQuite BrightBiology
Spelman College is an EXCELLENT liberal arts institution of higher learning. I am from Stone Mountain, GA and wanted to attend SC because it was close to home. I was presently surprised at all that it had to offer. I attended SpelBound my senior year. This gave me the opportunity to stay on campus over night with a student in her dorm. They had many activities planned for us. They taught us chants/songs, etc.

Spelman College has a very rich history and tradition that is respected. The faculty are excellent and actually care about students. They make an attempt to learn all of their students names by the end of the semester. I graduated in 2009 and I had a professor call my cell phone and check on me almost 2 years later. Sisterhood is really encouraged here, and you actually form a unique bond with classmates.

As a biology major the course work was VERY challenging; but I could always count on my Spelman sisters to help me!

Every year hundreds of employers come to the school to recruit students for internships and employment. Additionally many Medical and other allied health professional representatives come to the school to talk to students about increasing their chances of admissions.

As I mentioned earlier I am from Georgia, but I have many friends from all over the US and even abroad. I had the same roommate all 4 years of college! She is from Los Angeles so it was very interesting being her roommate.

At Spelman you will find all levels of the socioeconomic ladder. You will find Range Rovers, Mercedes-Benz, and many BMW's in the student parking deck; but you will also see students walking to the MARTA station. I grew up middle class. However, many of the students come from wealthy families; but do not brag or exclude others because of their financial situation.

Spelman provides a quality education to all who enter the gates. Almost ALL of my classmates who intended to go to medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, PT, or law school got in! In the near future, I will have many lawyer and medical doctor friends. It is also very common for students to go ivy league schools for their second degree. I know of two classmates who are at Harvard Medical School.

When I was in H.S. I was somewhat of a loner and did not have many friends because I was really into my studies. During my first week at SC I had made many friends who were very similar to me. I came into SC as a girl who was kinda meek and unsure about herself. I left a woman of great confidence! Many of my classmates were very outspoken, and it taught me to be the same.

SC is one of six undergrad schools approved by NASA for it's math and science programs. The science building along with the Cosby building are the two nicest education buildings on campus. Science/math are serious here. Speaking of new buildings a new residence hall was erected in 2007-2008(?). It is an environmentally friendly building and the only building at an HBCU that meets LEED standards.

We also have a SpelBots team that competes in Japan at the RoboCup. Spelbots are basically little robotic dogs that play soccer. Spelman was the only all female, all black, undergrad team to participate in the RoboCup!

There are accessible computers/printers all over campus. Our math classes even have computers in them.

Spelman women are doing great things! One of the first 2 black surgeon generals of the US was a Spelman Alumna and was once the president of SC.

You also have the opportunity to meet children of celebrities. Spelman and Morehouse seem to be popular places to send these kids.

Campus security is FABULOUS! The campus is VERY safe. On many occasions I have walked from the science center to my dorm or car at 3/4am in the morning alone.

The surrounding area is dangerous. Clark Atlanta University's campus is very dangerous as well. Never walk alone, and don't leave the gates at night unless you are in a vehicle. I am not one who is easily impressed, but I LOOOOOVE SPELMAN COLLEGE!
