Rock Valley College

Biggest mistake of my life! The teachers are all very nice and helpful, but the office staff? Complete joke! Everything I have needed them for they have managed to mess it up terribly and cause a major headache! If you love waiting and dealing with ignorant people you'll love the rock valley office staff. Classes are super easy... Academic advisors suck..and its terribly hard to get an appointment at a decent time.. The internet has way better info than they do. I feel terrible for my nice professors who have to put up with rock valleys constant bs.. Even the teachers say it.

Rock Valley Community College is an absolute JOKE. I am of average intelligence and I find the classes to be easier than my high school classes. I moved here from out-of-state (IOWA) and I am disgusted with Rockford and Rock Valley College. I will say, their faculty is very friendly and helpful, but the work is too easy and if you need any financial aid at all, forget it. They've messed mine up so bad that my parents just paid for it out of their pockets. I will be transferring out as soon as possible. Worst College Experience EVER. If I stayed there I would be in no way shape or form prepared for a 4 year school.

When I first applied in the fall of 2010, for what should've been my first year / semester at Rock Valley, they somehow managed to lose my application (electronic on top of it all), leaving me unable to start until the Spring Semester of 2011. It took them until the last week of the semester to give me my FAFSA award letter (after tuition was fully paid, I was working thirty plus hours a week ensuring I could pay for everything) which seemed like a slap in the face. Yes I did get a check as a refund but it would've been easier to have the money at the start not the end.

Than shortly after the Fall 2011 Semester information went up I selected all my classes, and went on to have my summer. Today I checked to see when my first class started to find out I had been dropped for 'non payment' on fees for my classes. They did not call, mail me a letter or give me any kind of information that I needed and had to have the money in their pocket at that point. My carefully worked out schedule that worked perfectly with my work schedule was gone because they were unable to check in, I had money to pay for the whole semester up front, but somehow that gave them the right to drop me from everything.

Some professors are great and care about what they do, while some are simply incomprehensible. I had a teacher for my Business Calculus class that was not able to speak fluent and comprehensible English. Leaving many of us unable to get into the course work and forced to use our valuable time elsewhere after wasting three hours in a class room not understanding the professor.

The campus looks good and it's well maintained, but it's obvious it's not at the quality it should be at. Rockford is by no means a good city and Rock Valley should be seen as a way to become productive and maybe make Rockford a more enjoyable place to live. But that's not the case.

A lot of staff namely in the Financial Aid and Scheduling office are flat out rude. If you have a question they will either flat out refuse to answer it, give an attitude or basically talk down to you, even though your money is what is giving them their job. If there was another option I would go, but now I will have to make (another) patchwork schedule or fall behind by a whole year. A lot of people said I had a bright future ahead of me, but Rock Valley is a clear obstacle that is blocking that. I will not miss this place.
