 | Average | | The only thing that this college helped me with was a degree (and I barely got that). I wasn't the best student, and when you aren't a 4.0, wealthy, or have family who went to Goshen College, they tend to let you fall to the wayside and focus on the ones who are in that preferred class. Aside from that, the nursing department did not even give me (or 50% of my classmates) the knowledge to pass the state nursing boards. They had a 50% fail rate, and they are only supposed to have a 2% fail rate to be accredited.....not sure how they covered that up, but of those that failed the first time, 50% failed the second, and again the third, and so on.....(SAD!) If I had known that this is not the "Mennonite" that I grew up with, I wouldn't have gone there. I was under the impression that the Mennonites were conservative, exactly like the ones I grew up around. These so-called "Mennonites" are the opposite - completely liberal to the point of being ridiculous. And, if you aren't a Christian, they will try their best to force you to be. You are required to go to a set number of chapels and convocations (not unlike most Christian schools) or else you can't graduate. ALL of these sessions are Christian-only. They say they embrace other cultures, but it is only to try to convert them. I would recommend that a high school student spend more than one college visit day here if you really think this is the place for you. Don't just go when there is a college visit orientation planned, go when the officials aren't spouting you their memorized lines......go on an off-day from high school. Just kind of hang out and listen in to see if this is what you really want. After you pay your $80,000+ to attend, they will frequently send you mail requesting donations and more money for the college. They recently put up a NEW senior apartment complex and said it would not affect the tuition (but it raised it quite a bit). Also, students are no longer allowed to live off-campus. The only way to do that is if you are living with your parents or married (which they frown on). | Starting Job: Mental Health Technician, Preparedness: D+, Reputation: D+ | | |
