Ivy Tech Community College - Columbus

Awful, awful school. The school hires students who have no idea what they're doing, no matter if it's the financial aid department, IT, whatever. No printers in computer lab. Teachers are rude. I dropped a class (ENG 102) because I got to the computer classroom 5 minutes late, there were 2 computers left but broken. Everyone else was taking a test and the teacher made me eat the grade instead of letting me take it else where. Not enough parking, constant construction. Teachers act like it's a chore to help you. Instructors drop courses at last minute, letting people who have never taught the course take over... This school is a nightmare. No wonder Ivy Tech has a 19% graduation rate.

I was a working adult going part-time at Ivy Tech Columbus. I wanted an education in the program I chose, because that is what interested me; however, what I found was that Ivy Tech Columbus did not take working adults seriously, i.e. they assumed that we were not going to finish, that we were there because we lacked any "brain power," and that we were not serious about it at all. I wanted to get into another type of job; however, I am doing the same thing that I was when I started the program at Ivy Tech, because apparently a lot of employers do not take their education seriously (where I live).

I transfered my Ivy Tech credits as electives into an Indiana University program that is related to the program I was in at Ivy Tech. Going to Ivy Tech was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I went there because it cost the least amount of money and not because my "brain was inept" to attend a larger university. Now that I am a senior at I.U. (going part-time), I wish that I would I have started at I.U. Before going to Ivy Tech just because it is less expense, think about the outcome. Is that really what you want? Unless you transfer into a degree program at a major university, no employer (at least where I come from) will take you seriously. Ivy Tech has their only little "click," which is okay I guess, but I really wasn't into being a part of a "click" at all. Think twice before you go (and before you go to IUPI at Columbus -- same thing, different building -- does not seem the same as I.U.)

Alumnus Male -- Class 2000

Ivy Tech Bloomington was one of the worst mistakes I made. I should have went to IU instead. I wanted to get better grades though, and then go to IU. Most credits do not transfer, and the staff was not very helpful. The financial Aid offices slacks off. I was approved for a Pell Grant, and then after I received my degree, and the final semester was over they revoked it, because it "Slipped through the cracks." Then a year later I received a bill. That again they said slipped through the cracks. They admitted it was their fault, but are still trying to charge me for their mistakes. The faculty, especially the Financial Aid and Business office are arrogant and snobby. They look down on you for going to a community college, and think you are not worth anything, because you are not going to a University and getting a BA right away. If you have the chance to go somewhere else, please do so.
