Mercyhurst University

Remember what type of school you want to come to, whether it be large or small. Mercyhurst is a SMALL university. Expect many close friendships and to know just about everyone. Expect a great sense of community with your peers. Expect your professors to know your name and be willing to spend hours simply talking to you. Do not expect sporting events where everyone and there mother showed up. Do have a great day.

If there is no other college nearby that has the program you are looking for, then Mercyhurst College is a decent choice. Overall, my experience here has been good and I think the majority of the faculty are truly here for the benefit of the students.

There are a couple of professors that I've had the misfortune of working with that have nothing better to do than to look down on students, but for the most part, I feel the majority of professors are honestly willing to serve the students.

If there was anything I could change about this college, though is it's tuition. Obviously, with the US's economy, every college's tuition is rising, but Mercyhurst's tuition is becoming unreal. Be prepared to pay $9000 a term if you plan on going full time every term.

I personally am glad that I am not a freshman, because there's no way that I'd be able to handle these increasing tuition rates. I have trouble handling them now, let alone when they continue to increase until students pay $10k a term.

Other schools around Erie, Pa do not have the program that I majored in, so I had no other choice. Otherwise, I certainly would have gone to a state college. The Mercyhurst Administration definitely has a high opinion of their school --- far too high if you ask me. There's no reason why students should have to pay $30k/year at Mercyhurst, because it isn't that amazing of a college.

If you have a fairly common major, like accounting or business, then do yourself a big favor and go somewhere else!!

Another issue that potential applicants should know about is that resident Mercyhurst students MUST live on campus until they are seniors, THIS IS REQUIRED! So, this will cost you even more on top of that $30,000/year!!So, to summarize: Mercyhurst College has excellent teachers for the most part, a very well landscaped campus (because apparently that's where all of the tuition goes!!), and has a incredibly high tuition. Unless you have excellent financial aid, or if money is not a problem for you, then DO NOT go to Mercyhurst. You will be scrambling for money, otherwise!!
