I am going to graduate in December but,Quite BrightArt & Design Department
I am going to graduate in December but, instead of being happy, I am getting upset by the day. Our professors are telling us there are no jobs for our major in the Pee Dee region. But, why are they teaching arts? Is it just for a piece of paper they will be giving me in December? If that's why, then it doesn't make sense. How would I pay for my student loan of $26,000? When I discussed this matter with my friend's uncle in New York, he told me why there are no jobs for FMU's graduates:

1. Students at other schools are trained by professionals who have real world experience
2. Students at other schools receive superior education on state of the art technology.
3. Colleges are supposed to have career services to help students to write their resumes, update their knowledge of the job market, find internships and jobs, etc. FMU doesn't provide anything like that and that's why fmu students lag behind and that's the harsh truth!!

Question
I came to fmu because of my fatherBrightSociology
I came to fmu because of my father who graduated from FMU. He told me the school was quite good for the money. But, then it changed after Carter took over in 2000. Now, when I talked to him about the problems we are facing at fmu, he couldn't believe it. So, he came to visit me and he had a chance to test fmu's services, professors, and staff. He was shocked!!! He called me later to tell me that I was right fmu is a disaster. Now, I am transferring to Coastal Carolina U. Although this one is not the best by any means, it has a very good reputation in the region. Good luck!

Question
I have posted in the past with regardsNot so bright
I have posted in the past with regards to this blog and people seem to think I am a member of FMU's faculty who is spamming this site with positive comments. Nothing is further from the truth. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Antioch New England studying Conservation Biology. However the majority of things I have to say about FMU are positive. The saying is true. You can only get out of something what you put into it. If you do not like the education you are getting at FMU perhaps you should evaluate "your" performance and make sure you are doing everything you can do to make it better. I for one learned a lot at FMU and to be honest feel like I was "over-prepared" for graduate school. A lot of the things I was being taught in my first 2 semesters of graduate school I had already learned at FMU. There are a lot of new faculty in the Biology dept. but the core group is still there and I don't see how you can go wrong with them. I agree that the nightlife in Florence, SC is "dead" to say the least. But college isn't about the nightlife. Sure it's nice to be able to go somewhere and blow off some steam after a tough exam, but that shouldn't be your deciding factor when selecting a school. Clemson for example is WAAAY out in the sticks, but its still a very good school. I can't speak for psychology, business, or computer science, but I can tell you that the majority of classes I took at FMU were informative and the faculty were cooperative and conducent to a learning environment. Sorry for the wordage there... I was a high school teacher for three years after I graduated.
