Don't go to college. Unless you're going to Harvard - or something like that - I recommend trade school over some place like Drew. A waste of time and money. I have a very expensive education with good grades and I can't get a job. I was recently turned down for a telemarketing job. Things are very grim. Temp agencies won't register me. I was told I'm not marketable. I would have been better off taking some of the money I used for Drew and traveling and using the rest to learn HVAC repair.

I didn't gain anything from going to Drew that I couldn't have picked up anywhere else. I've learned more from PBS. College doesn't build character, time does. Maybe experience does, too, but how would I know. Stuck at Drew then stuck in mind and soul numbing jobs tying to pay off loans and still have money to buy a can of beans for dinner. I am currently unemployed. Drew career center is two elderly women and a file cabinet. And no help for alumni except a subscription to a HotJobs knock off that fills my email with spam. Things really suck and it's not going to get any better soon. I'm trying to save up money for career training (medical tech)but I'm going to end up with more loans. It infuriates me that I've paid (with time, $, and effort) for something that will never be any use to me. And now, to avoid welfare, I must go back to school to learn a trade. Because I have a BA I'm ineligible for Pell grants.

In summary, Drew and third tier schools like it are usless. Go to beauty school, travel, get a scholarship to typing school, or put your college money in Roth IRA - don't blow it on Drew. You don't learn anything and you're not going to impress anybody by telling then you went there.

And it's not just me. Other Drew alums are also destitute or in retail or secretaries. It may break your parents hearts, but if this is your only option, don't go. Better to break your parents hearts now then ten years latter when your still living in their basement.

responseI am sorry that you are having such a hard time. You can overcome it. First step is to stop blaming others. (College didn't make you ineligible to do telemarketing.) Second step is to stop trying to impress others. (That never works!) Focus instead on what you want and what you can do about it. Set your own goals. Find out what it takes to achieve them. (How have other people done it?)Break it into little steps and start doing them. Meanwhile, stop pitying yourself and start taking care of yourself. (Stretch out or defer your student loans if need be.)
