Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
This is a university for those who know what they want to do, and have the energy to go about doing it. You get a lot of choice in almost everything, which can be real joy for those who thrive in this sort of environment. On the other hand, there are the students who kind of fall by the wayside as well. It is an environment that is difficult to be unhappy in, simply because everyone is encouraged to pursue interests that are a true reflection of themselves, and to do so in a collaborative rather than a competitive manner. Faculty and administration alike are open and committed, and more often than not do go the extra mile with their students. You will, however, get as much out of Brown as you put in. It is not right for everyone. I personally really loved it and think that I probably could not have been happier anywhere else; I am also fairly left-leaning in politics and very clear about what interests me and what doesn't, and what I want to pursue and what I don't. However, one of my closest friends is a republican, and many other friends I made through a christian group which is fairly conservative, which only goes to show that the community really is elastic enough to contain all kinds of people, if the people themselves are happy about being in this kind of environment where many different groups co-exist.
