Ohio University is good for the motivated student who does not need to have superficial nor high quality entertainment or goods in order to be pleased in life. Situated in the rolling hills of Athens, this university can lend itself to being a cubicle of entrapment for freshmen especially because it is a small university overall, not close to the highway, which can lead to a feeling of 'cabin fever' for some.

Ohio University gives all students the chance to give themselves a makeover. Whether the student barely graduated from high school or whether he was a valedictorian, there is always room for improvement. The classes can sometimes be disorganized, especially in classes over 99, but the smaller classes are excellent for personal help and growth in writing, reading, and comprehension skills. Larger classes sometimes do not realize that some people have not had much exposure to the subject matter before and therefore perhaps should be treated as somewhat mindless drones for 3/4 of the quarter in order to understand the material.

The social life here is very good. People make friends easily because it is a large campus and some people remain friends with people they knew in high school. However, the serious student who spends all his free time studying except for a few moments to socialize can become seriously excluded though he wants to be included when he gives himself the chance. People have lots to talk about and there is never a dull moment of silence. Many times, groups go out to activities such as hockey games or concerts. The older scholars may go out to bars or participate in smoking.

Smoking in this campus is a large problem. Smoking is a problem outside of buildings, especially for non-smokers because one must step between crowds of students indulging in their addictions before or after class and have to breathe in the smoke. This is quite possibly the biggest problem on campus.
However, there is an indirect upside to this conflict of interest. There are substance free dorms, which are a tremendous relief to those who are sick of secondhand smoke. Like other dorms, it has vending for those who get hungry at night, and drinking fountains that make it very convenient for the student who gets thirsty often. Dorm rooms that house two people are well equipped with a comfy chair, bunk beds, desks, closets, garbage bins, and plenty of storage space. However, the older dorms are in serious need of a renovation. The students do not deserve to live in rooms that are chipped, cracking or even cold.

A good thing about this university is that people are extremely courteous when it comes to doors. For example: When someone in the dorm hallway sees someone from the dorm trying to get back in through the locked door, he or she lets the poor person in so that he does not have to fumble for the key. The courtesy regarding doors is continuous.
Ping Rec Center, of course, is wonderful. It is like a country club on campus and it provides for everyone's needs. It is perfect except for 2 aspects: 1) eliptical replacement for high standard continuity and 2) weight intervention. There are many anorexic/bullimic/?? people that go to Ping and their situation is horrible. Most likely, people are too afraid to say something. I believe something should be done in the form of intervention, but perhaps this is not ethical. However, it very sad and distracting to see a 5'7 girl who weighs 100 pounds do a machine with heavy exertion.

Religious life is fantasic. There are always programs and the Athens community is always involved. People make friends here too. One can even be motivated to get more orthodox, for the facilities are in very close proximity to the dorms.
The educational buildings are in great shape but the technology is not up to snuff in some of them.
Teachers are very motivated to help you learn and they take pride in what they teach by exhibiting ardent enthusiasm in material, detailed assignments and hearty class discussion.
