Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
When I asked my faculty advisor about grad school, she lit up…until I clarified that I was interested in NYU or UCLA. Then nothing. Prior to that I was "a part of the department team", after that I was practically ignored. I was denied post-grad job assistance. The lack of accredidation has sorely hurt me in many, many ways. I had to move into technology to get a good paying job, completely unrelated to any course work I took at BJU. I have hit the glass ceiling and am now stuck. My manager suggested I go for the MBA. Every single accredited University has told me I will need to redo my bachelors completely. The fact that my major is not even listed and that we have to choose "other" shows that BJU is ashamed of the Cinema Department. Even though the global hands-on filmmaking experiences & training surpassed the departmentalized format of union-based UCLA, NYU, & USC film schools, it lacks a real-world perspective that creative people must be able to get a real job to pay their bills. Those film jobs are through the unions and the people I've met & worked with there are NO different than the people I've worked with in corportate environments. Here's a news flash for BJU: there ARE Christians who live and work in Hollywood. Just as many as there are in any other business: a small percentage. If BJU still labels Hollywood as "an evil to be avoided" then BJU, with it's cinema training resources, is partly responsible for the void of Christian filmmakers in the system.
