the university is great because it is just a 15 minute easy commute on the subway to NYC. the only problem with the university is they are still trying to work out their dorm/commuter problems. This relates to social life. there really isn't that much to do ON CAMPUS if your a dorm student, but nyc is all around you so you'll have no problem finding something to do. it's just very mixed. The school of pharmacy, school of law, school of business, and school of education are all ranked very high nationally and almost guarantee you career success. They have this college of professional studies though that just brings down the university because the kids in there have no minimum expectations to fullfil. The school of law has 90% of it's kids passing the bar exam as compared to NYU which only has about 48%. School of pharmacy is #10 in the nation and school of education is very competitive with under 100 student addmitted each year and you must keep a 3.5 gpa and pass not only new york state teaching certification exams, but st. john's ones as well. The university mission is to help with poverty and that is where they go too far. yes, it's amazing that they help low income families, but they just go a little too far. the college of professional studies has some great programs and very high achieving students, but thats only a handful. most kids don't want to be there and are only there because st. john's lets them go for free. that's why there are so many problems with the dorms because it's like housing projects. however, the dorms are beautiful and brand new so if you get along with your room or suite mates you'll be extremely happy there. they just need to work on more social activities to keep kids out of trouble, set standards for the college of professional studies to weed out the bad seeds, increase security and let public safety have more abilities to help keep the campus safe, and stop giving athletes everything they open their mouths for. those will all improve within the coming years. st. john's is a great place to get an education. if your from outside of new york be prepared for culture shock as most kids there (once again, all in this college of professional studies) are a bunch of poser thugs.

commentYou're out of your mind if you think those statistics about bar exam passage is correct. NYU is one of the most respected/hardest to get into programs (considered Tier I and top 5) in the country while St. John's is definitely not. I also know that it's definitely more than 15 minutes away from NY City (more like 45) by subway. Your post is ridiculous
responseIts good I've been commenting like the above comment above this one.

NYU does not have a 48% passage rate it has more like a 95-97% passage rate and even though Saint John's only RECENTLY GOT TO THE 90%.

As for 15 commute, that is a bit wrong to manhattan. On an OPTIMAL DAY , CONSIDERING OFF-PEAK HOURS DAYTIME WITH FEW PEOPLE GETTING ON/OFF THE BUS AND EXPRESS SUBWAY MAYBE 25 MINUTES JUST TO GET INTO MANHATTAN, OF COURSE THAT'S THE FIRST STOP USUALLY YOUR DESTINATION IS FURTHER ONE.

ST JOHN'S DOESN'T LET PROFESSIONAL STUDIES PEOPLE GO FOR FREE, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THIS INFORMATION.

Disregard this review any person thinking of going.
