Major: Geography and Geosciences (This Major's Salary over time)
I wouldn't say this is a negative review but the majority of my experience at Mercyhurst College was not positive. First of all, if your major is not RIAP,Antropology,Archaelogy, Forensic Science, Sportsmedicine or business, you have no business going here. I was only one of eight or so geology majors in the whole school and our head professor was on sick leave for the whole year leaving us with virtually no department. For a school that charges $20,000 for tution (although most people do get decent scholarships or finacial aid), there are a lot of shortcomings. Our internet was always shutting down and was slow. The food was awful, although only freshman are made to buy mealplans. The dorms were one of the strong points. They were decent sized and actually had carpeted floors and had sinks in the rooms. The upperclass apartments are even nicer. The student body there (mostly from PA, Ohio and Western NY) was the most friendly group of people I have ever been around. I was an out-of-stater from the NYC area and I had no problem fitting in and felt right at home. The hockey games were awesome to watch as were basketball, just forget about their football team. As for classes, It really depends on which professor you have. 50% of my professors sucked and didn't have a Phd (even a couple who did sucked), but the other half were really great teachers who really cared and knew what they were doing. The students there aren't the brightest group but there are bunch of really smart kids who have 4.0 averages every year. I wasn't overwhelmed by the coursework but it is no means a cakewalk. There were times when I felt like I was hardly doing any work and sometimes when I was completely swamped. It is still relatively easy to pull a 3.0-3.5 on most majors there.I did wind up transferring after my freshman year because of my major and several other reasons. The only thing i really miss from the experience is the people and the campus atmosphere.
