1. Luckily, Crown was fully regionally accredited, when I enrolled at Crown I didn't know it was such a big thing. Be sure the college you go to is accredited. If it isn't, your degree usually won't mean as much in the working world, and it is hard to transfer your credits earned into another institution if you switch schools.

2. Hook up with an academic advisor right away, so that you don't waste valuable time taking classes that you don't really need.

3. Try to talk with a career counselor right away as well, because they can help guide you towards the right career, giving you a good plan on what you should be doing each year of school, in order to be prepared for getting that dream job when you graduate (i.e. having an internship lined up by your junior year)

4. I really recommend to high schoolers that you don't put too much pressure on yourselves to know what career you're going to do before graduating from HS, instead, pick a good quality school that meets all of your criteria, preferably one where the professors have real life experience, and are easily accessable, so that you get individual attention. Once you get going in college, you'll probably end up switching majors at some point, but the key will be everything I have said previously. At worst, if the major isn't offered at the college you've been attending, you can at least transfer your credits into a college that does!

Also, don't slack off on the ACT or SAT like I did. I had no idea that colleges would give it the weight they do. Also, many grants and scholarships for financial aid are based off of your ACTs, at least partly.

Hope this helps people!

Nate
