I transferred from a Eastern Connecticut State because I wanted to go to a Christian school and was NOT disappointed. Great education, VERY esteemed teachers, and a great balanced environment. Just to give you and idea of what Gordon is like, I'll give the positive and negative.

POSITIVE:

  • Good, open Christian environment. Not at all restrictive or legalistic. Yes, it's a dry campus, but that's not on account of it being Christian (ECSU was a state school and it was dry). If you want to drink off campus, nobody gives you a problem. politically and socially, the school is right of center, but there are liberals and those who are very far to the right. If you fit either of these catagories, you won't be given any problem so long as you are not abrasive.
  • Great teachers. A few exceptions cough philosophy department cough Everyone is approachable and reasonable. You will learn a LOT! Even if you're taking a class on a subject you know a lot about, you'll learn even more.
  • Class size. Every professor teaches their class, everyone gets individual attention, and everyone knows you by name.
  • Students. Most of the people here are really nice. Sure, you get the occasion jerk, fundamentalist, revolutionary, and snitch, but its hard to find a place that doesn't have this.
  • NEGATIVES

  • Work. Gordon is famous for its unbelievable workload. While much of the time you'll have freedom, if you don't plan out a schedule or if you put things off till the last minute, you'll have weeks that will consist of nothing but classes, meals, and homework.
  • Chapel. They pick and choose what they want to accept from the Bible and expect the student body to not even bat an eye when they come up with something that is controversial. The music is bad and they won't take suggestions. You give them an idea, you'll always get the same answer: "We'll take it into consideration." Translation: "If we pretend like we give a crap, will you go away and leave us alone?"
  • Money. $30,000 including room and board. 'Nuff said.
  • Overall, I recommend this place.
